Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and U.S. President Joe Biden have agreed to continue sanctions against Russia and support of Ukraine.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated this on Thursday following a meeting with the U.S. President, Ukrinform reports with reference to Reuters.

"We are in unison about working closely with like-minded countries including the G7 members, and we agreed to continue strict sanctions against Russia as well strong support for Ukraine," Kishida told reporters.

Leaders of Japan and the United States met ahead of a broader summit of the Group of Seven nations (G7) who gather in Hiroshima on May 19-21 to discuss a wide range of topics from climate change and food security to tightening sanctions on Russia.

As Ukrinform reported, the day before the White House specified that the agenda of the G7 leaders' meeting amid Russia’s aggression against Ukraine will include discussion of the situation at the front and the continuation of international support for the Ukrainian state.

As expected, the leaders of the world's most advanced democracies will also discuss opportunities to strengthen the negotiating positions of official Kyiv to end the war, as well as the issue of reconstruction of Ukrainian infrastructure.
