For the first time since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the European Commission proposed imposing sanctions against a number of Chinese companies for supplying equipment to Russia, which is allegedly used for military purposes. According to RBC, this is reported by the Financial Times with reference to an internal document.

The discussion of the sanctions list will take place in mid-May, it includes seven Chinese companies: 3HC Semiconductors, King-Pai Technology, as well as Hong Kong’s Sinno Electronics, Sigma Technology, Asia Pacific Links, Tordan Industry and Alpha Trading Investments. All companies work in the field of development of semiconductors, microchips and electronics, notes FT.

“Given the key role of electronic elements for use by the military-industrial complex of Russia <…>it is also appropriate to include some companies [в санкционный список] in third countries <…>which are involved in the development, production and supply of electronic components for the military-industrial complex of Russia, ”says the draft document prepared by the European Commission.

Western countries have repeatedly called on China not to help Russia with arms supplies. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken pointed out that “if the information about the deliveries is confirmed, then this could create a serious problem for us and our relations.” Representatives of Beijing called reports of an intention to supply arms to Moscow as disinformation.
