The United States and France share concerns regarding China's position that poses a challenge to the international order, including by providing some support for Russia's policy.

Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson at the U.S. Department of State, said this at a briefing in Washington on Thursday, April 6, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The United States and France share concerns regarding the challenge the PRC poses to the rules-based international order, including through Beijing's ongoing support for Russia's war against Ukraine," he said.

He was commenting on the preliminary results of today's talks between Presidents Emmanuel Macron of France and Xi Jinping of China in Beijing.

Patel recalled that U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with his French counterpart on April 4, ahead of the latter's trip to China. At the same time, Biden and Macron reiterated "steadfast support for Ukraine."

During his talks with Macron, Xi said he was ready to cooperate with France to end Russia's war against Ukraine through negotiations. However, the Chinese leader did not specify whether China was ready to change its position on the issue.
