China’s reaction to the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus: the expert drew attention to the details

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China is always restrained in some assessments regarding the war of Russia against Ukraine, however, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reacted to the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus. This was announced today, on April 2, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by an expert on East Asian issues, a master of foreign policy, Natalya Plaksienko-Butyrskaya.

According to her, China has said that there are five countries that now officially possess nuclear weapons. A year ago, they signed an agreement that nuclear war cannot be started and that nuclear weapons are not the solution to the problem.

“This is already a position, and it has been expressed. And in this position it was shown that China is unhappy with what Russia is doing. China is in a certain such trap because it relies on Russia as a strategic partner in its confrontation with the United States of America, and it also needs some help from Russia in this direction, so it cannot sharply criticize the Russian Federation. In addition, China used to pursue a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, but today it will gradually need to develop a position when it will need to speak louder about this non-interference, ”Plaksienko-Butyrskaya said.

She noted that during the meeting, the Chinese leader and Putin stated that they would conduct strategic policy coordination regarding Central Asia.

“This means that they will have a greater willingness of the two countries to influence the situation in Central Asia, they do not want the United States or other countries to help. That is, they said that they would help maintain their sovereignty and resist color revolutions. That is, it turns out that the two countries are trying to maintain the situation in Central Asia in such a way that democratic forces, for example, cannot develop there and that Central Asia is under their control,” the expert said.

Plaksienko-Butyrskaya drew attention to the fact that this was the first step when China announced some of its political ambitions, because in the past it had mainly focused on the economy.

“The deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus cannot please China. These are still certain red lines for China. I think that they have been voiced to the Russian side, ”she expressed her opinion.

The expert believes that Russia, planning to place nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, sets China up.

“On the one hand, there is criticism in the world that Xi Jinping was sitting at the same table with Putin, and then such things happen. On the other hand, other countries in the Asian region will also look at how the situation develops and, perhaps, South Korea and Japan will want to place tactical nuclear weapons on their territory, given the situation with North Korea. And in this case, China will have less arguments to contain it by supporting Russia. China, to a certain extent, helps to open Pandora’s box, which is very unsafe in this world and for itself, ”summed up Plaksienko-Butyrskaya.
