In the near future, Russia will pose the most serious threat to US cybersecurity, according to the authors of the annual report of the American intelligence community “On global threats to the United States.” An unclassified version of the report was published on the US National Intelligence website, writes RBC.
According to the document, the United States expected Russia’s priorities in cyber operations to change under the influence of the conflict in Ukraine, but this did not happen. For this reason, “Russia will remain a major cyber threat as it improves and uses its espionage, influence and offensive capabilities,” the text of the document says.
The authors of the report also argue that Moscow is paying “increased attention to improving the ability to attack critical infrastructure” – submarine cables and industrial control systems of the United States and its allies. Cyber interventions are seen as “a foreign policy tool that allows you to influence decision-making in foreign countries,” the report says.
Russian authorities have repeatedly denied allegations of involvement in cyberattacks.
