China providing Russia with weapons for its war against Ukraine will be a red line for the European Union.

Details: Josep Borrell’s warning came two days after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed "deep concern" that China was considering providing potentially "lethal assistance" to Russia for its war against Ukraine.

Recalling a meeting he held on Saturday with top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi, Borrell mentioned "a red line". He said that the EU was concerned with China possibly sending arms to Russia.

"I asked him not to do that, and expressed not only our concern, but the fact that for us, it would be a red line in our relationship," Borrell said.

"He told me that they’re not going to do it, that they don’t plan to do it," Borrell said, adding: "But we will remain vigilant."

Other EU foreign ministers attending a Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels also warned Beijing not to cross that line.

Background: It became known last week that Xi Jinping, President of China, had an intention to make "a peaceful speech" on the one year anniversary of the war in Ukraine where he would possibly present a so-called peace plan.

According to media outlets, the West is concerned that China’s "peace plan" will undermine the support for Ukraine in the UN.
