EU will impose more sanctions on Russia on invasion anniversary, Scholz says

According to him, the EU will support Ukraine “for as long as necessary.”

Scholz added that Germany is one of the countries providing Kyiv with most financial support.

“When it comes to the supply of weapons and ammunition, we are also far ahead of everyone else in continental Europe,” he added.

At the same time, the chancellor criticized “public auctions under the motto: battle tanks, submarines, aircrafts – who will ask for more,” referring to Kyiv and its allies pushing for more heavy weapons to defeat Russia. In his opinion, only Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and his propaganda effort will benefit from such discussions and disagreements.

Scholz stressed that, despite all the assistance provided to Ukraine, NATO shouldn’t become one of the parties in a military conflict with Russia.

He also promised to continue to closely coordinate arms supplies to Ukraine with Germany’s partners and allies.
